Mobile phone service launched

A mobile phone service for Patonga has been officially launched after weeks of trials late last year.

Federal Member for Robertson Mr Jim Lloyd officially turned on the service last month.

"This is the culmination of a campaign, which has gone on for more than nine years," Mr Lloyd said.

"Working with the Patonga community, I have been constantly lobbying Telstra and a number of other mobile phone companies in an effort to secure mobile phone coverage.

"Now, for the first time, Patonga residents can feel there is some tangible security in their community.

"They are no longer completely isolated in an emergency and will be able to access medical care or emergency services from locations in the townships and its surrounds.

"The mobile phone transmitter is a vital lifeline for this community and I am pleased this project has finally come to fruition," he said.
