Roundabout to proceed despite opposition

Gosford Council is about to start construction of a $600,000 roundabout on the corner of Mt Ettalong and Cowper Rds at South Umina, despite a petition with 800 signatures opposing it.

Residents affected recently received a letter informing that the project was to begin this week.

Umina resident Mr Bryan Ellis said that the traffic issue at the intersection could be easily solved with stop signs or a speed hump.

"I don't know what prompted the roundabout," he said.

"I think Council are embarrassed because they don't do very much work down that way in Umina."

He said that a petition was submitted to Council with 800 signatures in October but was ignored and council voted in favour of the traffic committee's recommendation.
