School surveys parents
Woy Woy South Public School has released the results of its 2003 parent survey.
"Each year, as part of the school's self-evaluation process, a random sample of parents from each class is asked to complete a brief survey of some aspect of school organisation," principal Mr Mick Tattam said.
"Over the past few years, we have conducted surveys on learning programs, K-6 English, maths, communication with parents, writing and reporting to parents."
"The results of these surveys provide valuable feedback which we are able to incorporate into future planning."
This year's survey addressed school management and culture.
Amongst the results, 37 per cent of respondents said they felt that they could talk freely to their child's teacher about their progress.
Eight per cent disagreed with the statement that teachers care if their child is not doing as well as they could.
The majority of parents said they felt welcome when they came to school for interviews, conferences or special events.
They also said that student success was regularly recognised, praised and rewarded.
Woy Woy South was also rated highly when it came to parent satisfaction and keeping parents well informed.
Only 15 per cent of respondents strongly agreed that improving the quality of student learning was the school's main focus, but 85 per cent simply agreed.
Five per cent of parents disagreed with the statement that the school provided a safe and secure place.
Similar numbers disagreed with statements that the school had high academic standards and valued parents help, interest and opinions.
