Spikefest raises $600 for mental health
The Rotary Club of Woy Woy is to donate all the funds raised at last weekend's Spikefest to the Australian Rotary Health Research Fund for mental health research.
The club raised almost $600 from a sausage sizzle run as part of the Spikefest held in Woy Woy on Saturday, October 4.
"Spike Milligan, who was an honorary member of the Woy Woy Rotary Club, suffered for a large part of his life from the effects of mental illness and it seems it appropriate that we use the funds raised in this way," said club president John Greenway.
Spike visited his family in Woy Woy regularly and was often a visitor at the Woy Woy Rotary Club.
On the night he was given honorary membership, he was welcomed by a club member dressed up as a seagull.
Spike's mother was also given honorary membership of the club.
"We are sure both Spike and his mum would be very pleased that the club is making this donation with them in mind," Mr Greenway said.
