IT training places announced
Training in information technology for older workers will be available at Ettalong until June next year.
Fifty new positions will be offered by WorkWise at its Ettalong and Wyong Training Centres after funding was announced for the program.
The announcement was welcomed by WorkWise manager Mr Mike Burnett.
"The Basic IT Enabling Skills (BITES) for Older Workers program is an initiative of the Australian Government and the NSW Department of Education and Training," he said.
"It provides individuals aged 45 years and over who are seeking work, in receipt of Centrelink benefits or are low income earners, with the opportunity to undertake training in information technology.
"Training will provide participants with a set of competencies, which are basic in the workplace, and help them participate more effectively in the information economy.
"Training is free and covers nationally accredited modules of training including: operating a personal computer, operating a word processor, and sending and retrieving information over the internet using browsers and email," he said.
Each course is for a total of 44 hours over four weeks
