Jazz festival at The Bays

The Bays Community Group will present a Jazz Festival at 1pm on Sunday, November 9.

The festival is to be held in the grounds of the Bays Community Hall, 19 Woy Woy Bay Rd.

The inaugural Bays Jazz Festival will feature locally-based five-piece outfit, Just Jazz, led by the double bass player and Bays resident John Callaghan.

The band also features vocals by Carol Ralph, with Tony Burkys on guitar, Nat Oliver on trumpet and flugel horn, and Mal McGillivray, another Bays' resident, on drums.

"The event will be held outdoors, weather permitting, in the surrounds of the Bays Community Hall," said community group vice-president Mr Jeffrey Cook.

"It should be a great afternoon of music and fresh air for all the family."

"Cheese plates and refreshments will be available."

Local residents are contributing outdoor furniture and sunshades.

"People are asked to bring a cushion, a colourful beach umbrella or shade and be prepared for great entertainment and some serious relaxing," Mr Cook said.

Limited seating is available if required.

Tickets are $12, with under-15s free.

The Bays Community Group is the new name of the Bays Progress Association, serving the residents of the three bays: Horsfield Bay, Phegans Bay and Woy Woy Bay.

The group meets every third Wednesday at 7.30pm at the Community Hall and new members are always welcome.

The group also held the Bays Bush Dance in August.
