Music store opens in Woy Woy

Peninsula now has its own music store

Peninsula Music, based in George St, Woy Woy, plans to become the main source for musical instruments, music books and music accessories for the Peninsula.

Proprietors Frank and Marilyn Russell are co-founders of the Woy Woy based Troubadour Folk Club.

Marilyn is the president of the Central Coast Bush Dance and Music Association and is a director of the Umina Beach Folk Festival.

Frank has been a musician for many years, has been teaching music locally and aspires to make his own instruments.

With Marilyn wanting a change after commuting to Sydney for eight years, the Russells decided to turn their love of music into their business.

"We looked at market research reports from the Australian Music Association which show music participation rates.

"We then compared this with Gosford Council's website showing population spread and it was obvious that there was a need here on the Peninsula that was not being met," said Marilyn.

As well as stocking the usual variety of instruments and accessories, Peninsula Music also stock the more unusual folk and world music instruments as well as many lesser known boutique brands.

"We like to help people find what they want, give them some helpful advice and where appropriate find them lessons, if that is what they need," said Frank.

In its first week of trading, reaction from the public has been overwhelmingly positive, according to proprietor Ms Marilyn Russell.

"People have been coming in all the time saying how great it is to be able to buy their accessories locally," she said.
