Oyster Festival on Woy Woy waterfront

The annual Brisbane Water Oyster Festival will be held in Anderson Park on Woy Woy waterfront on Sunday, October 26.

The festival will run from 9am to 4pm and entry is free.

There will be family entertainment with country and rock bands, stalls, wine, seafood and oysters.

A "Blessing of the Fleet" ceremony will occur at 12:30pm.

A flotilla of fishing trawlers and boats will leave Gosford waterfront at 11.45am and motor down to the Woy Woy waterfront.

After the blessing at 12.30pm, the festival will be officially opened by Member for Robertson Mr Jim Lloyd.

This year's flotilla will be led by the Rural Fire Services boat and joined by the Royal Volunteer Coastal Patrol.

The traditional Putt Putts and interested boat owners will follow the flotilla to Woy Woy for the Blessing.

This year, 1200 dozen oysters are being specially farmed for the event.

"This year's festival is shaping up to be the best ever," said organising committee chairperson Cr Debra Wales.

The festival will start with live entertainment from country music band Buckshot.

"They will bring the waterfront alive with their foot tapping and boot scooting that everyone loves to get up and have a dance to, even if they don't know the steps," Cr Wales said.

"Country music is for every age, young and old."

The afternoon entertainment also includes rock band On the Prowl, with music from the 50s and 60s.

"There will be a variety of food, wine and oyster stalls to tempt the taste buds and plenty of art and craft stalls and entertainment throughout the day."

There will also be the first annual Ocean Planet Woy Woy Rotary Club Oyster Festival Kayak Challenge.

The challenge will begin at Woy Woy Wharf on Sunday, October 26, at 10:30am and proceed out onto the course route on Brisbane Water.

The finish line will be at Woy Woy Wharf.

Awards and prizes, donated by Ocean Planet, will be provided to first, second and third place, best and fairest and most deserving amongst others.

Entrants can register their details at 4342 2222 or email race@oceanplanet.com.au.

There will be two lucky draw prizes and one grand prize draw for a kayak at 1pm.

Tickets will be available at the festival.
