Library funding is announced

Peninsula primary schools will receive just over $18,000 in Federal Government funding for their libraries.

"Education authorities will be allocated over $5 for every student in their jurisdiction," according to the Member for Robertson, Mr Jim Lloyd.

"All Australian primary schools are provided with funding based on the number of primary school students enrolled at that school in the prior year.

"These funds can be used by schools to purchase printed, audio, braille and e-books by Australian authors or produced in Australia."

The grants were based on enrolments for 2002 and between the seven Peninsula schools, there were approximately 3615 students enrolled, giving a funding total of $18,075.

Woy Woy South Public School led the enrolment numbers last year with 760 students, followed by Ettalong with 728, Umina 703, Woy Woy 465, Empire Bay 410, St John The Baptist 386, and Pretty Beach Public School on 165.

Central Coast primary schools will share in an estimated $63,300 in funding under the grants to Primary School Libraries Program for 2003.
