Help with simple nail care

A new service is now available for Peninsula residents who require assistance with simple nail care, but who can't afford the expense of specialist podiatry treatment.

Joanna Prendergast is a registered nurse with over 20 years' experience working with the elderly.

Joanna said: "In recent years, I have become increasingly aware of the critical shortage of podiatry services for the elderly and disabled.

"While it is still possible for diabetes patients with foot problems to access the severely under-resourced hospital podiatry department, non-diabetics and others who do not meet the essential criteria are left with no choice but to seek private podiatry assistance."

Joanna is not offering a specialist service and advises people with foot problems to seek expert advice from a qualified podiatrist.

Nevertheless, there were many who could benefit from her assistance, she said.

"Many pensioners who have uncomplicated feet but who can't see or reach their toenails easily may be putting themselves at risk in order to avoid the expense of specialist podiatry treatment.

"It is this group I aim to target with my service."
