Barbecue for fire unit members
The members of the Community Fire Units of Horsfield Bay, Woy Woy Bay and Umina were invited to a barbecue at Umina Fire Station in Trafalgar Ave on Sunday, July 20.
During the afternoon, they were presented with certificates of appreciation from the NSW Government for their support during the fire season 2001-2002, presented by Supt Keith King, zone commander of the Central Coast.
The Community Fire Units were formed in July 1999.
The members all live close to bushland and regularly meet to maintain clear access to the bush in case of fire and have practice drills in setting up fire hoses to protect the homes prior to the arrival of the fire trucks, if and when a fire erupts.
Anyone interested in joining a groups should contact the Umina coordinator, Mr Frank James, on 4342 0918.
