August rains is already above average

After a dry July, the Peninsula has already received more than the average August rainfall.

The month's rainfall stands at 72.8mm, 12 per cent above the August average of 65mm.

The majority of the rain was recorded on two days, according to figures supplied by Mr Jim Morrison of Umina.

A total of 36.7mm was recorded on Sunday, August 6, and 17.0mm was recorded on Monday, August 14.

The other 19.1mm fell over nine separate days.

The total rainfall so far this year is 537.1mm which is 45.6 per cent than the average total of 987mm at the end of August.
