Comprehensive electrical upgrade at aged care home
A Woy Woy aged care home has had a comprehensive upgrade of its electrical systems.
The upgrade was part of building work for extensions at Blue Wave Living and sees the home's power capacity increased from a current of 400A to 630A.
The work included a complete main switchboard upgrade, including the installation of a 450KVA generator, and power and lighting systems both internally, externally, and for emergency purposes.
It included a new lighting control system and television antenna wiring, and the relocation of two existing generators.
The primary challenge, according to electrical contractors Crossmuller, was to minimise power outages while upgrading the building's supply.
With the building's 24/7 operation and numerous residents relying on continuous power, the contractors said they took a strategic approach to reduce disruptions and minimize downtime.
Altering the original main switchboard design enabled the installation of multiple items prior to the scheduled shutdown.
The work involved 26 bedrooms, four kitchens, living areas, maintenance sheds and a commercial food preparation area.
