Umina finishes strongly
Umina Surf Life Saving Club has finished the season with some positive results.
At the recent NSW State Championships at Swansea Belmont, Umina gained two gold and five silver medals in the juniors, and three silver and one bronze medal in the seniors.
In the seniors, the women's boat crew finished third, with Phil Welch (sweep) and Karen Stevens, Darrien Mill, Karen Paull and Joane Upton.
The women's Taplin relay team finished second, with Karen Paull, Wendy Cook and Kerry Armstrong competing.
The women's board relay team also finished second, with Karen Paull, Wendy Cook and Kerry Armstrong competing.
In the women's tube swim, Wendy Cook gained an individual silver medal.
In the juniors, Joel Dennis-Hall gained a silver medal in the under-9 board.
Marissa Morre gained a gold medal in the under-11 board.
Liam Jackson gained a gold medal in the under 13 ironman.
Liam Jackson and Alex Lavers combined for a silver medal in the senior board rescue and Liam Jackson, Michael Baker, Robert Moate and Aaron Moore repeated last season's success with a silver medal in the under-13 board relay.
Of the 82 Umina children who competed, more than half made it through to the final of their events.
