Good profit posted

Woy Woy Bowling Club posted its third highest operating profit in 18 years last financial year.

In the fifth consecutive year of profit, chairman Mr John Gardner announced a profit of $88,866.

"Considering the economic climate of the last 12 months, we continued to operate successfully," Mr Gardner said in his annual report to members.

Last year the club posted a profit of $200,804 and $149,857 the year before that.

Mr Gardner said the club was well poised for its future.

"We had a frustrating time in finalising the finer points of our club extensions, but hopefully we can now see a light at the end of the tunnel.

"Of great benefit to the future prosperity of the club was the installation of the synthetic green.

"The true value of this innovative move will be fully appreciated in subsequent years."

This year the club had higher turnover in bar trading and poker machines, but profit was down due to higher costs.

Bar trading profit was $162,473 and poker machine profit $616,596.

President Mr Glen Smith, in his annual report, made mention of the club's commitment to the community including a $1400 donation to Gosford Hospital for a special lifter bed, and coaching of Woy Woy High School students in bowls.
