Della Bosca opens arts fair

St John the Baptist Catholic School held an arts and crafts fair on August 11, 12 and 13.

Officially opened by State Labor MP and local resident, John Della Bosca, the fair attracted large crowds over the weekend.

The art show in the school library included works by many local artists.

Artists included were Kevin Duncan, an Aboriginal artist from East Gosford, Paul Thomas from McMasters Beach, Pete Hogan from Balmain, Michael Berry from Mangrove Mountain, Dawn Greentree and works from her Bouddi sculpture group and Gwen Barth from Umina.

A money tree, a small tree in a pot with a large number of "scratchies" pinned to it, was raffled over the weekend and won by Peninsula resident Mrs Bronwyn Russell.

The opening function attracted a large number of patrons from the school and from the local community alike. Guests were treated to an official Aboriginal Welcome Dance performed by Anthony Leslie and Kevin Duncan which was arranged by Kate Busbridge from the Darkinjung Aboriginal Land Council.

Guests at the opening ceremony were entertained by the Central Coast Conservatorium junior string quartet.
