Bronze medallion course starts tomorrow
Umina Surf Life Saving Club starts its next Bronze Medallion course tomorrow, October 15.
The eight-week course will be held on Tuesdays and Sundays before Nippers.
Umina life saver must have completed their bronze medallion, which qualifies them to patrol any beach in Australia.
Patrol rosters at Umina are typically four to five hours every three to four weeks in the summer.
The course will teach surf skills, identifying rips and currents, First Aid, resuscitation (CPR) and using a defibrillator, surf rescue techniques, radio communication, working in a team, and advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy.
Prerequisites for the course are being a minimum of 15 years of age and being able to swim 400m in less than nine minutes in a pool.
Course fees are $190 for new member and $140 for existing general or parent members.
