Amalgamation problems will extend to the next election
"The current administration clearly believes that if it lies frequently and with conviction, the general public will be lulled into believing their oft-repeated dictums."
This quote is by Dr Helen Caldicott in 2006 (Nuclear Power Is Not The Answer p xii).
It has proved to be correct in the recent public vote to decrease wards and councillor numbers due to subjective advice from the council.
This means amalgamation problems will extend to the next local government election and beyond, when I expect there will be more "dictums" from the council.
As the very familiar ad says: "When you're on a good thing stick to it."
Every decision made by the council and councillors could be made to assist this transition with supporting referendum voting advice.
Who will question this public decision?
Will residents accept responsibility for this fait accompli?
Will residents withhold their rates or will they bend to the government's power?
The Peninsula News does not have a council column in every edition.
Is this due to the fact the council is not concerned about the Peninsula and "lies frequently" to quote Dr H Caldicott?
The government should not be relied on to deliver education.
