Aged care building program 'ahead of schedule'

The building program at a Woy Woy aged care home running slightly ahead of schedule for the current stage of works, according to its chief executive.

"We expect practical completion to now occur in December sometime, as opposed to late January," said Blue Wave Living chief executive Mr Matt Downie.

"We may not be able to utilise all of the new spaces until late January, by the time we move through the certification process.

"We are hopeful that as a minimum, we will be able to make use of the new Club House space and barbecue area off this space, leading into the Christmas period.

"The Club House space includes a large open space with tables and seating, a fireplace lounge area, a dedicated cinema space, a side seating nook space, opening out both sides onto our internal courtyards."

Mr Downie said a bar and servery in this area would not be operational until the new year.

"On the east side will be our new dedicated barbecue area, with covered patio space with tables and chairs.

"These areas will be a fantastic space for residents and families and visitors to enjoy over this period."

He said the Stage Two works currently underway would also see the completion of another complete household,Coastal House.

"Existing residents in the older rooms in Driftwood will be able to move across into new rooms sometime from late January onwards, subject to final certification of the spaces.

"Following the certification of the new spaces, and the transfer of residents across, we will then start to work towards getting underway with the next stage of works.

"Stage 2.5 will include the rebuild of the remaining old rooms in Driftwood, the creation of a new link between the buildings, which will also see some new spaces added, and the rebuild of the Palm Sails courtyard.

"We would hope to get underway with these works early in the new year."
