Five former councillors elected to new Council
Five former councillors have been elected to the new Central Coast Council has, including three former mayors.
It has five Labor councillors, four Liberal councillors and three Team Central Coast (Team McKinna) councillors.
Only one other independent councillor was elected: anti-seawall campaigner Cr Corinne Lamont.
The council meeting last Tuesday, October 8, elected former Gosford mayor Cr Laurie McKinna as mayor and former Wyong mayor Cr Doug Eaton as deputy mayor.
The other former councillors elected were former Central Coast mayor Cr Jane Smith, previous Central Coast councillor Cr Kyle McGregor and former Gosford councillor Cr Belinda Neal.
In Gosford West ward, which covers the Peninsula, Liberal Cr Trent McWaide, with 10.702 first preference votes, and Labor's Cr Neal, with 10,294 votes, each gained the quota needed for election on first preferences.
Cr Smith, with 4541 votes, was elected to the third position for the ward after 19 counts eliminated competitors.
The five Labor candidates elected to the council were Cr MacGregor, Cr Neal, Cr Margot Castles, Cr Sharon Walsh and Cr Helen Crowley.
The four Liberal candidates elected were Cr McWaide, Cr Jared Wright , Cr John McNamara and Cr Rachel Stanton.
The three Team Central Coast candidates elected were Cr McKinna, Cr Kyla Daniels and Cr John Mouland.
