Responses made to youth crime concerns, says Tesch

Member for Gosford Ms Liesl Tesch said the State Government had prioritised community safety through a number of significant measures.

These included moving to extend the strict bail test that applied to young people accused of stealing cars and breaking into homes.

"This test was initially introduced by the NSW Government last year in response to rising community concerns about youth crime," she said.

She said there was also a $26.5 million community safety package, which included the expansion of NSW Police-run Youth Action Meetings.

"The Central Coast YAM first met in October 2024 and provides tailored case work to reduce youth anti-social behaviour."

Ms Tesch said an offence had been created imposing an additional two years' imprisonment for people who commit motor vehicle theft or break and enter offences and share material to advertise their involvement in the criminal behaviour.
