Outrigger club reports 'fantastic day'

Central Coast Outrigger Canoe Club reported "a fantastic day of racing" at the Pasha Dasha regatta in Newcastle on March 15.

In the novice seven kilometre race, the club's two crews came first overall and fifth of the women's teams.

Their three experienced crews in the 10km race were second in the senior master women's category, second in the golden master men's category, and first in the platinum category.

Novice paddler Lana Meggs said she hadn't thought of racing when she joined the club in October.

"The best part was getting to know the wonderful women in my crew during training and the feeling of comradeship amongst our club on the day".

At the other end of the scale, the six experienced paddlers in the club's platinum crew, with a combined age of over 420 years, were Ally Binfield, Sue Giaquinto, Pam Iliffe, John Iliffe, Gary Machin and John Lovedee.

"Our platinum paddlers are an inspiration to clubs up and down the coast," said club secretary Ali Bell.

The club trains regularly from Woy Woy and Patonga.
