Maureen narrowly wins major singles final
Maureen Carlyle has narrowly won the Everglades Bowling Club Major Women's Singles Final on Thursday, March 20.
Club secretary Ms Vicki Redrup described the final between Beverly McFarlane and Maureen Carlyle as "a nail biting seesawing game".
"Maureen took the early lead with some outstanding bowls, taking the score to 15-3.
"Then Bev put her nose to the grind and continuously chipped away at the Maureen's lead.
"Suddenly it was Bev leading 17-15, then 22-19.
"Bev showed great determination to keep the lead.
"Maureen got the mat and decided to change things, putting the mat short and the jack on the T.
"Maureen won the next few ends with this strategic move.
"The score was 24-22 with Bev leading, 24-23 with Bev still leading, then 24-24.
"Supporters were holding their breath while waiting for an outcome.
"It was so close, nothing separated them."
In the end, Maureen defeated Bev 25-24.
"What an amazing game of bowls."
