Triples championship 'lived up to the hype'

The final of the Umina Beach Men's Bowling Club's Triples Championship was played on Sunday, March 16, in hot, gusty conditions.

The game was between last year's champions Chris Letherbarrow, Glenn Simington and Greg Shirley and new boys Brandon Fraser, Jayden Moody and Brett Jacobson.

"This was a high quality game that lived up to all the hype," said club secretary Mr Peter Springett.

"Jayco's side skipped out to a 5-nil lead after four ends, but Greg's side struck back with five shots to make it 5-all after five ends.

"Jayco's side picked up a one and a three to go to 9-5 up after seven ends.

"Greg's side picked up a two and a four to go into the lead 11-9 after nine ends.

"Greg's side picked up a three and went to a 14-11 lead at the 12-end stage.

"Jayco's side won the next seven ends to go to a 23-14 lead at the 19-end stage.

"Greg's side fought back strongly and picked up four of the next five ends, to be 20-24 down after 24 ends.

"Greg's side were holding a couple and had a chance to pick up a four with a trail, but Greg's last bowl just missed the jack and went two down on the last end, for the championship to go to the 'new kids on the block', Pud, Jayden and Jayco.
