Olympian named as local Woman of the Year
Two-time Olympic silver medallist Nicola Olyslagers from Tascott has been recognised as Gosford Local Woman of the Year.
"The Local Woman of the Year Awards recognise and celebrate progressive thinkers, everyday heroes, social advocates and community role models," said Member for Gosford Ms Liesl Tesch, herself a Paralympian.
"Olyslagers was nominated for her contribution to sport, recognising her determination and athleticism.
"Nicola's passion for the Central Coast and for fostering local grass roots sport and athletes is clear through her work with developing athlete programs."
Ms Tesch said that 93 women had been nominated by their local MPs to be acknowledged during NSW Women's Week, which ran from March 2-8, an annual week-long celebration with activities that empower women and promote gender equality.
"Nicola is such an exceptional role model in our community, not just for her Olympic medals, but the kindness, humility and dedication to community that she has shown within the athletics space," said Ms Tesch.
"Nicola's achievements in the sporting arena go much further than her world-topping achievements.
"Nicola has a fierce commitment to inspiring and shaping the next generation of athletes right here at home on the Central Coast."
