Central Coast Health issues measles alert
Central Coast Local Health District has issued a "measles alert".
It has advised people to be alert for signs and symptoms of measles after an infected person visited several locations on the Coast, including Gosford Hospital.
The person recently returned from south-east Asia, where there were "ongoing outbreaks", and attended Woolworths Erina Fair and Wamberal Beach on Saturday, March 1, and Gosford Hospital on March 4.
Public Health Unit Director, Dr Kat Taylor said anyone who visited the above locations at those times should monitor for symptoms until March 19.
"Symptoms to watch out for include fever, runny nose, sore eyes and a cough, usually followed three or four days later by a red, blotchy rash that spreads from the head and face to the rest of the body," Dr Taylor said.
"A dose of measles-containing vaccine can protect against the development of measles for unvaccinated people, if given within 72 hours of exposure to measles."
Anyone with symptoms should call ahead to their doctor or emergency department to reduce the chance of infecting others.
