Charlie named grand champion in karate world cup
Brisbane Water Secondary College student Charlie Jones has been named a grand champion in team sparring at the International Sport Karate Association's World Cup held at the Whitlam Leisure Centre in Liverpool in October.
Charlie was first in his category in point sparring, sword combat and sumo.
He was second in clash sparring, third in traditional forms and fifth in traditional weapons.
Following the World Cup, he was ranked first in point sparring in the 16-17 years male advanced-expert category with 204 points.
He was ranked first in the male 16-17 years sumo - all levels to 60.9kg, with 108 points.
He was number two in male 16-17 years all levels light kick with 126 points and in advanced-expert clash sparring with 108 points.
He was number three in both traditional forms (96 points) and sword combat (90 points) in the male 16-17 years advanced-expert category.
He was ranked seventh in traditional weapons 16-17 years all levels male or female (56 points).
