Lifelong resident awarded life membership

Lifelong Pearl Beach resident Mr Paul Barclaire has been awarded life membership of the Pearl Beach Progress Association on Saturday, November 11.

Mr Barclaire was presented with the award at the Association's annual general meeting by Pearl Beach Memorial Hall sub-committee convenor Ms Victoria Crawford.

A citation with the award stated that Mr Barclaire was was born in Pearl Beach in 1945.

"As a very young child, he disappeared much to the worry of family and friends," it said.

"A search beside the creek found him sitting on steps eating cheese out of a foil pack, quite oblivious to the consternation of others.

"That quiet, contemplative approach to life has continued.

"As a child, he quickly learnt the area where he lived, and loved and appreciated the natural environment of Pearl Beach.

"He showed great interest watching his grandfather and other family members being involved in the building of the hall.

"The hall has become a lifetime commitment.

"Being community minded, Paul joined the Progress Association over 50 years ago and he has been an avid contributor, especially when there have been problems to be solved.

"Paul uses his skills and is always ready, willing, and able to provide 'know how' when building or for other Pearl Beach issues.

"If we need a working bee organised Paul is the 'go to' person.

"Paul has been on the executive at least 33 times.

"He has been invaluable on the Hall Sub-committee as he holds so much valuable corporate history and has practical skills which he is very willing to apply.

"As a member of the ambulance service, he was often called to give medical advice by members of Pearl Beach.

"Paul has also worked in the community through other organisations such as the Rural Fire Service, the State Emergency Service and the Arboretum.

"His drive, enthusiasm and tenacity have improved the community life of Pearl Beach.

"He has never boasted about his contributions but quietly made endeavours to support the village which he loves."
