Major singles

Alan Rhodes defeated Joe Ednie with a score of 31-15 in the Umina Beach Men's Bowling Club's Major Singles competition held on Sunday, July 22.

In a tight match early on, it was anyone's game, according to club publicity officer Mr Ian Jarratt.

However, at the 19th end, Alan's experience and control started to wear Joe down, he said.

"It was a good effort by Joe to reach what was his first major final and Alan praised his effort and indicated that the game was a lot closer than the final score indicated," said Mr Jarratt.

This is the fifth Major Singles title that Alan has won at Umina.

He now stands one game short of equaling the six-win record set by club legends Noel Barron and Barry Hicks.
