New beauty therapy salon opens

A new beauty therapy salon has opened in Woy Woy.

Therapist Ms Julie-Marie Scott has opened Serenita Beauty in Blackwall Rd, Woy Woy.

Ms Scott said she couldn't be happier with her lifestyle change.

"At the end of the day, it's all about the people, about building relationships and there's no better place for that than in the community in which you were raised," Ms Scott said.

Although she holds qualifications that allow her to work anywhere in the world, Ms Scott said she was delighted at the gratification she has already obtained and the welcome she has received from locals since opening on March 1.

"It was a big step to go out on my own after the security of working for long established, well known businesses such as the Hunter's Golden Door Health Retreat, but you can only take so much commuting and so many years living away from home."

Sarah Murdoch, Jimmy Barnes, Sophie Faulkner and Lisa Wilkinson are just a handful of the personalities Ms Scott has pampered.

"I have lived on the Coast since I was 12, was in the first student intake at the then new Umina High School and my sons Ben and Daniel are firmly entrenched in this community so the decision to invest locally was a no-brainer," she said.

After years in retail and health care before going into beauty therapy, Julie Marie is seeing a chance to combine all of her skills at Serenita.

"One of the things I enjoyed most about the Golden Door was the opportunities it afforded me to help people using beauty treatments as therapy and already there has been a large component of this in the new business, particularly with the elderly.

"But I am lucky so far as the client base is already such a vibrant mix ranging from young people coming in for a spray tan, or even advice, to mums just seeking to occasionally spoil themselves," she said.

"I chose the Italian name Serenita, meaning peace, tranquillity, peacefulness or serenity, because I thought that's the sort of place my clients would enjoy," she said.

Serenita is open Monday to Saturday and late nights by appointment.

It offers a full range of beauty treatments including waxing, tanning, facials, massage, manicures and pedicures.
