Umina fourth in rescue titles
The NSW Pool Rescue Championships were held at the Peninsula Leisure Centre over the weekend of July 28 and 29.
Umina finished fourth with a score of 180.5 with performances from Teigan Miller, Indigo Verhoeven, Claire Gaffney, Rachel Wood, Kiesha Bovill, Mimosa Henderson, Jasmine Darwin, Lara Reineker, Helen Krucler, Jemma Smith, Priya Johnson, Molly Murphy, James and William Bishop, James Johnson, Kieran and Harry Braddish and Angus Rands.
Terrigal dominated the championships with the largest team in the competition.
The championships included obstacle swims, manikin carries, line throws, medley relays and simulated emergency response competition.
The events are used to hone the surf rescue skills of top athletes, who are all volunteer surf lifesavers.
"These skills are not only important for saving lives in the surf but the competition is also great preparation for the Interstate Championships where each state vies for surf sports supremacy," said surf sports manager Mr Dan Pearce.
"Pool rescue is big on the international water sports stage and more of our home grown surf athletes are getting involved.
"It offers athletes more opportunities for national and international team selection, both in pool and surf events."
