Murray St upgrade still low priority

Murray St, Booker Bay, has been listed for consideration for funding in future Capital Works Programs, following a petition that was received on April 24.

The 105 petitioners requested that Council raise the priority for Murray St upgrading and advise whether funding had been allocated for the upgrade.

Council's Quarterly Petitions Report released in the Council Agenda on Tuesday, July 24, stated that Council had investigated the matter and found that kerb and guttering along Murray St was currently considered to be a low priority for funding.

However, it stated the task had been identified as a possible future project.

Mayor Cr Laurie Maher, together with the acting director City Services Mr Peter Armour forwarded acknowledgment letters to the petitioners.

In their petition, petitioners stated that unsatisfactory drainage was the main trigger point that had resulted in an unsafe street for vehicles, pedestrians and the general public.

Petitioners said they believed that Council had a duty of care and were concerned that they had contributed as ratepayers and had not seen any improvements in Murray St for over 30 years.

In addition, petitioners estimated some $76,000 had been collected by Council from developers in Murray St.
