Scuba divers retrieve rubbish from under jetties

Bikes, trollies, scooters, crab traps, electrical wiring, marine ply, tyres and plenty of small plastics and glass were removed from beneath the jetties along the Ettalong foreshores in a collaboration between Clean4Shore and volunteer scuba divers.

The volunteer divers from Scuba Gym were under the guidance of coordinator Ms Lyndi Leggett.

Clean4Shore co-ordinator Mr Graham Johnston said: "These divers are addressing marine debris that produces unwanted toxins in the waters, plus endangers native habitat through entanglement and ingestion of fishing lines and plastics.

"The monthly program produced ten tonne of debris out of the water in 2023."
