Charity golf day raises $10,000
The Rotary Club of Brisbane Water has raised $10,000 in its second annual Charity Golf Day, held on Monday, November 4, at Everglades Golf Club.
Club treasurer Mr Mark Simpson, who organised the event, said he was happy with the turnout of 115 golfers, with teams coming from local businesses and local golfers.
"The day started at 6am with breakfast and champagne before the golfers set out to play 18 holes," he said.
"After they finished, there was a lunch, drawing of the raffle and prizes for best players.'
He said the event was a resounding success, with an expected $10,000 raised for the Cancer Council and Rotary projects.
Last year's event raised $7000.
In a surprise presentation after the event, Mr Simpson was given a Paul Harris award for "his unstinting work in arranging charity events and being an essential part of the Rotary Brisbane Water team".
District 9685 governor Mr Niranjan Deodhar presented Mr Simpson with his sapphire pin, pictured with club co-president Ms Marion Cornish.
