'Past traumas need not define our future,' says author
Local author Ms Wen Gibson hopes that her memoir, Stammering Against Truth, launched last weekend, proves that past traumas need not define our futures.
It tells how, from a life of childhood abuse, she found a way to a life embodying resilience, healing and transformation.
"It recounts my journey from extreme childhood trauma to a life of kindness, giving back and helping others," she said.
Her memoir delves into the plight of a stammerer, the unbreakable bonds of twinship, and her body's need to dissociate.
Her memoir takes the reader from the red dirt of Broome, to the streets of India and the mists of Scotland.
She crosses the continents, often by bicycle, committing to radical political action and spiritual exploration.
These pursuits helped forge her growing character, and find her way to her heart and her true gender self, and the importance of kindness, she said.
She has spent her life learning how to heal and help others heal, using Western and Eastern medicine, psychotherapy and talk therapy.
"I have worked as a counsellor in Umina and Koolewong since 2005."
