Player returns to Umina United after professional career
A soccer player who started with Umina United as an under-5, before going on to a professional career, is returning to play for the club next year.
Player Chris Payne said: "Coming back to Umina means a lot.
"It's the club I started with as a junior in Under 5s.
"Growing up watching first grade as a kid, Sunday afternoons at Umina Oval was always exciting.
"Now, all my kids play for Umina, and being able to come back after so many years means a lot to me and my family.
"My dad coached first grade, and my two brothers played under him, so Umina has always been a family club for us.
"I'm excited for next year.
"After just missing out on promotion, I hope I can help the club and team achieve that goal and assist younger players as they learn and grow.
"It's going to be an exciting and successful year for the club."
Chris has had a career, which has included scoring 133 goals and representing clubs like Sydney FC, Newcastle Jets, APIA Leichhardt FC, and most recently, Bankstown City Lions FC, where he concluded his professional journey.
He represented Australia at uUnder-20 and under-23 levels.
Chris has stayed involved with Umina, coaching the under-11A team this year and receiving his 30-year service medal this season for his dedication to the club.
