Removalist retiring after 40 years
I was asked to give a small insight into my removalist business, as I have now retired and moved on.
The business was started nearly 40 years ago on the Peninsula with one small truck, just doing home deliveries for the Pine Shop at East Gosford (which is now gone).
Customers started to ask for small things to be moved, and so it began.
A lot of the older customers would remember the old yellow truck, which was what I started with.
I still have it but like me it is also retired.
As the business grew, I needed staff so employed Philip as an offsider to help with the lifting, He started as a young man, now Phil has been with the business for about 28 years.
The business continued to grow, and I needed another truck and driver, so I put Phil through to get his truck licence and employed another offsider, Richard, who has been with the business for 14 years.
We took on all sorts of work which meant interstate deliveries and removals.
At one stage, we were doing trips at least once a month to Mackay, Noosa and Brisbane, as well as south to Canberra, Melbourne and Wagga.
Covid put an end to a lot of the regular Interstate work, but we still go there if requested.
Most of our work now is local removals and deliveries for a few of the local shops.
I needed to retire so I stepped out of the public eye and more into the office.
Phil and Richard became the face of Kevin's Removals and a lot of the new customers ask for them by name as they are very customer friendly and courteous.
I had been at it for a lot of years, so the offer was put to Phil if he was interested in purchasing the business and keeping it going as it has been for all these years.
So, Phil and his wife Kelly bought the business and are running it as owner operator, as normal.
I hope they do well and serve as many customers as possible over the coming years as I have done in the past.
