Outrigging club starts the season with medals

Central Coast Outrigging Club has started the racing season with one gold medal, one silver and a second place in the 50s division.

The club sent four crews to the Pacific Dragons Regatta at La Perouse on Sunday, October 13..

The novice crew of Virginia Westerson, Stephen Peruch, Murray Burrows, Cath Cameron Jodi Murphy and Andy Debus as steerer crossed the line first in its division to clinch the gold medal.

The silver medal was won by the long course mixed opens crew of Toni Melino, Aimee Quintal, Andy Debus, Colin Cook, Allan Keith and Yvonne Walters (steerer).

It was the Platinum crew with an average age of 76 who came second in the 50s division.

Coach Lana Hofman said: "Unfortunately a lack of competition from their peers saw them racing in the 50's division."

Nevertheless, the crew of Ally Binfield, Sue Giaquinto, Pam Iliffe, Dave Prescott, Gary Machin and John Iliffe (steerer) achieved a creditable second place".

The club's other crew consisting of Denise McKnight, Belinda Cook, Sandy Hauraki, Veronica Baker, Kerri Ghali and Linda Donini (steerer) was the club's entry in the short course senior womens master.
