Rotary club presents Pride of Workmanship awards
Three local employees have received Pride of Workmanship Awards from the Rotary Club of Umina Beach on Tuesday, October 9.
They were Mr Tyrone Cupido-Gillett, Ms Julie Chia and Ms Kym Kelleher.
The three awardees were present, along with their nominator.
Mr Cupido-Gillett was nominated as head baker at Bakers Delight Umina.
Nominated by proprietors Mr and Ms Joe and Rose Mondal, he was described as "an exemplary employee"
"Tyrone has worked with us from 2017 and has progressed from casual baker to start a baking apprenticeship with us," said Ms Mondal.
"He progressed after this to eventually becoming the head baker of Bakers Delight, Umina Beach.
"Tyrone starts at midnight or 1 am each day.
"He is never late for his shift and does not take sickies unless very ill.
"We would like to commend Tyrone for his loyalty to our business as well as now stepping up to leading the team of two with two apprentice Bakers.
"Each product is made from scratch and there are no second chances, so the head baker has to get it right each time."
Ms Chia was nominated as a newly-qualified optometrist at Specsavers.
Nominator Ms Joanne Weston said "she has worked with us for two years".
"Julie consistently receives positive feedback for excellent customer service, diagnosing life changing conditions on a daily basis.
"She is empathetic and an excellent communicator.
"Julie also works hard to help out on the retail floor and often bakes wonderful creations for the whole team."
Ms Kym Kelleher was nominated at as customer relationship officer at the Bendigo Community Bank at Ettalong Beach.
"Branch manager Pat Italiano would normally be here to promote the good work done by one of the senior staff members, Kym Kelleher," said nominator Rotary club member Mr Bruce Croft.
"He sends his apologies and has asked me to step in for him.
"As secretary, director, shareholder and customer for over 13 years at the branch, it is my privilege to share with you, the exceptional work skills that Kym constantly demonstrates in building long term relationships with customers and the local community in general.
"Kym is one of the two original staff members that commenced working when the Branch at Ettalong Beach first opened in March 2005.
"Kym has had nearly 20 years' service and is still going strong.
"She has worked under four branch managers.
"Kym has a bit of a reputation on the Peninsula - a good one for the branch.
"Many times when customers want banking assistance they are told to see Kym and when Kym is not there, as she doesn't work five days a week, customers regularly say they will come back another day when she is.
"This speaks volumes of the quality of Kym's customer service skills and banking knowledge and the fact that customers are always happy to deal with her.
"Kym displays excellent team leader skills and she is well respected by the other staff in the branch and is heavily involved in the training of new staff members.
"Kym is always keen to promote Bendigo's services to the community which in turn, continues to build good relationships with the bank."
Mr Croft said he had regularly come into contact with Ms Kelleher and "saw at first hand just how competent she is with customers, particularly the difficult ones that other staff shy away from".
"Kym certainly fulfils the criteria to be a worthy recipient of the Rotary Pride of Workmanship Award."
