Umina residents in world ironman championships
Two Umina residents have competed at Taupo, New Zealand, in the Ironman 70.3 World Championships against more than 5000 others from around the world.
Eva Koslowski-Gallagher raced on Saturday, December 14, with a time of five hours 18 minutes, placing her 88th of 252 in the 30-34 age group, and 432nd of 2059 females overall.
Mark Wilson raced on Sunday, December 15, with a time of five hours 30 minutes, placing him 91st of 189 in the 60-64 age group, and 2403rd of 3093 males overall.
The Ironman 70.3, also known as a Half Ironman, begins with a 1.9 km swim, followed by a 90 km cycle and a 21.1 km run (a half marathon).
The 70.3 refers to the total distance in miles.
With these races being a challenge just to finish, qualifying for the World Championships is a major achievement.
Eva and Mark have both qualified for next year's Ironman 70.3 World Championships in Marbella, Spain.
They are members of the Central Coast Triathlon Club, which holds monthly races for all abilities as well as races for juniors.
