Women's group receives council funding
Woy Woy's Art-Full Women group has received council funding for a new project starting early this year.
The group's creative producer Ms Brenda Logan said she was excited to have received the grant.
"There will be a series of hands-on workshops facilitated by artists Ms Lisa Mc Carthur-Edwards, Ms Nicole de Mestre and Ms Therese Gabriel Wilkins."
She said the artists were all committed to "reusing, repurposing and recycling".
"Participants will create artworks from material rescued from landfill.
"Natural materials will also be explored and woven in to the art.
"Women will be encouraged to share memories and stories inspired by the artworks being created, led by an experienced facilitator.
"The program will culminate in a public exhibition and performance, open to the community towards the end of 2025."
The group's ukelele group, The Melalukas, will perform at the event, as well as their drummers, belly dancers, singers and tap-dancers.
"It will be a wonderful celebration of older women on the Peninsula."
Ms Logan said Art-Full Women had run a wide range of workshops and social events on the Peninsula over the past four years, while keeping costs to a minimum.
"Apart from the monthly coffee mornings, in 2024 there were regular workshops in singing, drumming, belly-dancing, tap, ukelele and theatre skills.
"Craft and visual arts workshops were also held.
"The group has been fortunate to find specialists who volunteer their time to teach their particular skill."
Central Coast Council awarded the community development grant of $17,853.50 grant for the project, which will be named "Recollect".
