Barry becomes bridge grand master
Brisbane Water Bridge Club member Barry Foster has reached a rank of Grand Master, having earned 1000 masterpoints over 17 years.
Barry thanked his regular partner Hope Tomlinson who earned about 800 of the required points with him and participated in the long journey.
Barry said he had a slow start to bridge.
He had to do the beginner lessons three times with teachers Lorraine Lindsay, Helen Eaton and Christine Hadaway before settling into the game.
Barry advised beginners to learn conventions thoroughly.
"Learn one before progressing to the next.
"You're better off sticking to the basic system than having a head full of jumbled conventions."
