Students learn of the day Greece said no: ??? Day
Students at St John the Baptist Catholic Primary School have learnt about the day Greece said no to an ultimatum from Italian dictator Mussolini and entered the Second World War.
The anniversary of that day, October 28, 1940, is celebrated in Greece with a public holiday known as ??? (meaning No) Day.
The school's Greek teacher, Ms Anna Karantonis-Dalton, along with several students, led the school in a Greek assembly on Friday, October 27, focusing on the significance of the day.
The school was told that schools around the whole of Greece held assemblies, just like the one held at St John's, in celebration of ??? Day.
At these assemblies, students read poems describing the events on October 28 and the emotions involved in fighting for freedom.
