What we need is ambition for ourselves

I have a better idea for the Austin Butler Reserve.

Why don't we tear down the shabby, dilapidated Peninsula Plaza building, with its broken facade panels and its ugly, badly maintained carpark, and replace it with a Woy Woy Civic Square that we can be proud of?

We could group the library, the ambulance station, the post office and the courthouse around it.

We could even, probably, find some way to deal with the regrettable police building.

Maybe, the police could be relocated in conjunction with the courthouse.

And we could find space for a Council sub-office which is badly needed.

Such a square would highlight the Austin Butler trees and provide a worthwhile access to the tennis courts and oval and, eventually, to the shamefully underutilized waterfront.

The scheme could even include a well-designed public carpark to contrast with the hideous wasteland of Umina's Bullion St park.

We don't need Mr. Hart's bean-counting approach.

What we need is ambition for ourselves.

Oh, and lots and lots of new trees.
