End of an era as JB finishes his last patrol

Good Friday, April 19, marked the end of an era for a Killcare Surf Life Saving Club when Mr John "JB" Bourne finished his last patrol after 60 seasons.

"There was hardly a dry eye when 100 or so people cheered and applauded John off the beach to mark the end of his 60th and final season as an active patroller," said club president Mr Peter Bagnall.

"It's far from the end of his SLS service," said Mr Bagnall.

"He remains club coach, Life Member and club patron as well as being welcome to any patrol he feels like dropping in on, a privilege he was eligible for 48 seasons ago.

"JB earned his Bronze Medallion in 1959.

"One of the legendary Erko boys who lifted the club from the doldrums through the 1960s, JB is part of the DNA of Killcare Surf Life Saving Club and the Killcare community.

"We are profoundly grateful that we've had the honour of having JB at our club and serving our community for so long and in such a distinguished fashion" Mr Bagnall said.
