Computer skills improve
Pretty Beach Primary School's school improvement committee has found better computer skills since the opening of the computer lab.
The improvement of computer skills among teachers and students has been outstanding, with students producing work far beyond expectation, according to the committee.
The achievement by students of four distinctions from nine entries in the Australian Schools Computer Competition reflected this.
In education week, parents will be invited to attend their child's class in the computer lab to observe students at work.
A file server is to be installed at the end of the month as part of the Department of Education and Training computer roll-out that should help the system run more smoothly.
The focus of this term's school development day is to introduce a new maths syllabus.
Mrs Ingle introduced staff to the syllabus and its implications for teaching.
The implementation period recommended by the department is over the next two years, so this will remain a target for 2004.
Several meetings have been held of the school's Sustainable Schools Committee, which consists of parents, teachers and students, to increase student awareness of environmental resource management.
Work on set priorities will continue this term.
Biodiversity is the first area to be targeted.
