Warnervale defeats Woy Woy after close first half

Warnervale hosted Woy Woy at Woongarrah Oval in round five of Central Coast Rugby Union on Saturday, May 18.

Both teams gave nothing away and the scores were close from start in the first 40 minutes.

However, Warnervale was able to outlast the visitors to the tune of 32 points to 18.

The first half was a real tussle.

Ben Austine scored the first try for Warnervale while five-eight Sione Matakaingo scored the first try for Woy Woy.

Scores were locked at five-all early on and scores remained close for the first half.

Warnervale went to the half-time break leading by 15 points to Woy Woy's 13.

The second half saw Warnervale take the ascendancy.

They were able to cross for three tries in the second half to jump to a handy 32 points to 13 lead.

It was not until late in the match that Woy Woy was able to cross for their final try.

It was a good performance by both teams, but it was the home team Warnervale which was able to grab the victory.

A feature of the match was the four tries scored by winger Tevita Vaenuku.

Best players for Warnervale were lock Junior Siale, fullback Sione Vaenuku and winger Tevita Vaenuku.

Woy Woy were best served by No.8 Tali Sitani, five-eight Sione Matakaingo, and halfback Mitch Hyde.

In other grades, Warnervale also defeated Woy Woy.

In Premier 2, Warnervale 94 defeated Woy Woy 0 and, in Women's 10s, Warnervale 28 defeated Woy Woy 0.
