Bowling club has delayed Diggers Day event

The men's and women's clubs at Umina Beach Bowling Club combined on Wednesday, May 15, for their annual Digger's Day event.

Men's club secretary Mr Peter Springett said the event was held to "commemorate the sacrifices that our servicemen and women made on our behalves, so that we may have better lives".

He said: "The event was originally due to be held on Sunday, April 28, but due to open pennant commitments, we had to move the event."

He said 52 members attended the event.

Members Colin Mew, Terry Forbes and Rob Merrill ran the service and wreath-laying component of the day.

Wreath layers were women's club president Ms Gale Hill and men's club members Mr Barry Gimour, Mr Leo Lees and Mr Ray Kalenbacher who laid wreaths on behalf of the army, navy and air force.

"After the service we had an enjoyable lunch with sensational ham and salad rolls.

"Following lunch we had an enjoyable game of fours in beautiful sunny conditions."
