Tree planting as rain returns
The Grow Urban Shade Trees team took a break during the heat wave conditions which are not ideal for planting.
But, knowing that rain was on the radar, a friend of the group, Mr Gary Machin, helped plant a blueberry ash (elaeocarpus reticulatus ) and a weeping bottlebrush (callistemon viminalis).
The group prepared the neighbouring resident to water these deeply during the hot days and to keep a good depth of mulch around the trunk.
"The blueberry ash is a local native, very much at home here on the Peninsula," said group member Ms Deb Sunartha.
"We are currently taking requests for free council street trees which is a new process for Peninsula residents, taking some pressure off our volunteers."
