Men's Shed seeks people with accounting skills
The Umina Beach Men's Shed is seeking people with accounting and administration skills and IT experience to join its committee.
The Shed's committee decided to spread the news across the membership, and the Peninsula in general, that we are looking for a couple of people, said publicity officer Mr Vic Brown.
"The committee is very conscious of its age profile and health status.
"At a recent committee meeting, there was a good discussion and review of our succession planning," he said.
"We have been operating for some 14 years and membership has grown significantly over the years.
"We have recently located to our new and long-term purpose-built premises at 90 Osborne Ave, Umina.
"Obviously, we are not a business as such so there are not lots of transactions.
"But as a not-for-profit organization that secures grants, our records and reporting have to be top notch."
Mr Brown said that Umina Beach Men's Shed was a place to connect, a community to belong to with "mates that make it worthwhile".
"Being with a group of men on a shoulder-to-shoulder basis provides the opportunity to discuss all manner of topics, even health issues."
Health checks were often referred to in terms of throwing a "spanner in the works", he said.
He said the Shed was looking for people with "reasonably modern accounting skills, who were retired or had time on their hands and would like a touch of community involvement".
The Umina Beach Men's Shed opens Monday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings from 8am to 12pm.
Attendance days and frequency is up to the individual member.
